From June of 1998 to June of 1999
I called Germany my home.
After graduating from UCSD with my BS in 1998, I decided to head back to Europe for a year. I spent the first 3 months living in Köln working for Bayer. There were about 20 other Americans working there as well and I had a super summer there. It was also the place I first met Amanda, the best friend from college of Molly, a good friend from High School. I have lots of pictures from that summer that I want to scan in at some point, but for now all I have pictures from is the month long vacation I took in September when the Bayer program was open.


Greece 1999

I planned for one month of vacation and first took a week in Lyon, where I had studied for a year in 95-96, then headed down to Italy where I met up with Krisztina in Brindisi for the ferry over the Greece. We had a really great 2-3 week stay there, going to Korfu, Meteora, Athens, Mykonos, Ios, and Santorini. On Ios was the first time that I saw the watermelon-on-the-head trick which you can see in some other pictures on this website (noteably berkeley 2001). K and I had a very memorable time and met a lot of really fun people!

Stuttgart 1998-99

In October of 1998 I moved to Stuttgart to work at HP for 8 months. The only person I knew in town prior to coming, strangely enough, was Amanda, who also ended up there for the year after spending the summer in Cologne. The first night I was there I stayed in a hostel and started to look in the classifieds for a an apartment, and probably the third place I called up was Tilman's. I ended up getting extremely lucky, first in that the room was free and that I could move in, and then that Tilman and I turned into very good friends. In April of 1999 I ended up going out to an Irish bar downtown on my own and met Anna and Sofia, a night would lead to a five and a half year long relationship and three a half years of living in Sweden!
